This article assesses the impact of racial discrimination, as it still a major issue and it appears on rise. My hope is that we all become better equipped to talk about racism and come together to make a positive difference in our communities.
People across the world have witnessed a dramatic increase in accessibility of technology. Media Information Literacy relates to the ability to access the media, to understand and critically evaluate different aspects of the media and media content. It creates communication in a variety of contexts, it provides answers to the questions that we all ask ourselves and much of what we learn about the world beyond our immediate experience and at some point to identify the role of media in today’s generation.Media plays a vital role in making the minds of people of telling us something, shaping our understanding and how we see the world, and even compelling us to act or think in certain ways. It has the essence of having the ability to both enhance and protect our precious freedoms. Enable us to gain awareness of and exercise our rights online and offline as well as opportunities and risks for empowerment and self-protection.Some of the information providers including those on the internet has given us many opportunities to grasp messages across, may it be a serious matter, political, or social one. However, a lot people abuse and have taken it the wrong way,they tend of using it to attack each other’s beliefs. A platform for connection and sharing of ideas that turned out into a destructive criticism and online harm in a discreet manner. In order to be aware it is our responsibility to evaluate information sources with require skills, critical thinking, separating fact from opinion and image for bias. Media literacy is important in this digital age it teaches you how to be more responsible with the information that you see everywhere especially on the social media’s. And who knows? Media literacy can not only make you a better, well-informed individual, but can also enable you to create a change in the world.
My advocacy is about Racial Discrimination, there is so much to say about racism and the fight for racial since racism is still a major issue in our society, it appears to be on rise, alive and well. Until now stereotyping and labeling would always try to bring them down and block opportunities that they deserved through discrimination and labeling just because they came from Mindanao. As an advocate I will use my knowledge of what I have learned in Media information Literacy since people spend more time on the internet it is easier for me to spread information and raise an awareness of online content. In a digital world various forms of media is key to educate them to use internet properly to build resilience against discrimination and ensures that everyone uses media in an informed responsible way since using of technology is rampant and become as a necessity tool nowadays.
The following steps towards achieving my advocacy is first to provide positive alternative news that is rarely published in the dailies. I believe that bringing out positive and truthful news in the open is one of the best ways of letting other people from what they actually knew. Race relations programs and activities focus on awareness and knowledge about, behavior, persons of color and how to build a good relationship.
